CLASS THREE

3D Design & 3D Printing

Using Renoceros to design a 3D model and print it with Da Vinci 1.0 3D printer.

Same as class 2, I still use Rhinoceros to do my design work. This time I would like to build a mobile phone holder in order to watch TV series and movies on the desk. But there're some design rules that we must follow. Especially we can't build long bridges and consider about the wall thickness.

This holder can easily hold mobile phone of any size and any thickness. The angle of inclination is exactly suitable for watching the screen on the desk, no matter horizontal or vertical. The two holes in it is made to prevent the sound from being blocked by the holder when you put your mobile phone vertically.

Besides, I made some rounded corners on every turning point, to make it easier to print.

After the 3D model was built, I made a mesh of it to make it hollow, which can save printing time and material.

Saving the mesh as .stl, I open it in XYZware, which is the setting software of Da Vinci 3D printer.

Before printing, there're several setting that I need to do, such as to adjust the layer height to 0.2mm. If the layer height is 0.1mm, it will cost a lot of time to print. But if the layer height is 0.4mm, there'll be gaps between layers and layers, which makes the product ugly

After 3 hours'waiting, the holder was successfully made.

I can watch videos on it.
